Don't the off-road VW's run 930 CV's not so much for their strength, but for their added articulation over Type 2 CV's? I thought they have something like a 25+ degree limit. If that might be good enough, it seems to me that swapping over to some custom length 930 CV axles might be the easy button here.

On cars that I have built with CV joints, I just cut and sleeved the axles for the solid shafts. V=notch the sleeve, preheat and a good weld. If you can get the tubular right side axles, then they can just be shortened and rewelded.
