Porsche 910 build
Well after my last 3 year build, I'm kicking around a new build. I've done all this before
https://www.locostusa.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14608
Just really trying to decide if I want the challenge again. Prob is I've lusted after this car for years and there is no way I could ever afford one.
Just fishing for any comments... I've just roughed out some drawings that are no where even close to the structure I will use, but just sketching at present time
Engine / gearbox / uprights - running gear all Porsche Boxster
Cheers

I vote go for it. Your previous build was a work of art. I'm a huge fan of this generation of race cars. I do like the 910, though I'm personally smitten with the Ferrari P3. Doing a 910 replica with a more modern Porsche engine and drivetrain sounds like a sweet restomod

I've always liked these designs too. Do you have a source for a street-legal laminated glass DOT windscreen or will this be molded lexan? Could build topless and road legal with a minimal screen and wiper if required, then later add a roof with a wiper you'd never use due to scratching.

The road legal part is always a challenge. I'm in the process of moving back to Oregon and getting a special interest plate is pretty easy.Miatav8,MstrASE,A&P,F wrote: ↑January 1, 2025, 7:51 am I've always liked these designs too. It will be a polycarbonate windshield but no wiper. I had my last race car reg for the road and that did not have a wiper.
Porshe made a handful of the spider but the car looks better with a roof in my opinion.
The chassis is pretty easy, I would use a company in Canada called VR3 engineering. The cnc router cut all the tubes so the profiles are perfect. Its the body that is a mega task... so on the fence to do it all over again. I'd love to do a aluminum body, but I don't have the skills on forming.
There is a new 3D panel forming tech out there now but I'm better its sill expensive.

Thank you for the compliment on my previous build!SamY wrote: ↑December 31, 2024, 9:34 am I vote go for it. Your previous build was a work of art. I'm a huge fan of this generation of race cars. I absolutely love the P3 too. The Porsche makes sense so I can keep a Posche motor in it. My plan would be to rip of all the OEM intake and build my own 6 ITBs so it looks the part.
I could bring myself to build a Ferrari replica then put a some donor engine in it that is not Ferrari and I don't fell the need to spend silly money on a Ferrari engine. The cool thing about using Boxster parts, there a ton of drive train and uprights etc for cheap $$$.

Re: Porsche 910 build
I used VR3 for my 7 and am very pleased with their work. I'm in Oregon City, look me up when you get settled, if you'd like. Would love to see your project come together!
Peace, Ron

Me too, I'm in Hillsboro building a Haynes roadster, and this summer I'd love to see the other locosts in the area.

Re: Porsche 910 build
I hear you on the mash up. Though I find it practical/cool in many situations, there are certain builds where it seems sacrilegious and a Ferrari would be one of them. I'm amazed with as crazy as 911 prices have been going that the Boxster/Caymen are still so ignored and 'cheap' by comparison.LindsayM wrote: ↑January 1, 2025, 8:46 am I absolutely love the P3 too.
