"508 Resource Limit Is Reached" Messages

I've started to get the above message all the time when I'm logged in and navigating around in the forums. Has anyone else experienced this recently?

Yep! Several times. Usually goes away by backing out and logging back in, but annoying nonetheless.

Yep, got it several times browsing site and posting. Have to back up a try submitting several times till success.
Thought it was just me, apparently not.

I got that message when I tried to post here and I've gotten it a lot more recently.

Another thing is that when that's happening pictures don't display, I only get the links. I can click on the links and see the pics but they won't display in the posts.

I haven't had a problem for a while. Maybe Mr. Hempy has worked his magic, or fed the monkeys, or whatever it is that he does. Anyone else have any probs lately?

I was getting a "RESOURCE LIMIT REACHED Try again later" message with no 508 preceding this morning and left 'till this evening. The message is still showing up every time I hit 'enter' and requires several refreshes to get to go where I wanted. I found this when I looked at the number of users on the index page:
In total there are 1423 users online :: 5 registered, 0 hidden and 1418 guests (based on users active over the past 5 minutes)

Since this is waiting for Mod review I'll add that this problem was seen back in 2010 with the message:
Resource Limit Is Reached
The website is temporarily unable to service your request as it exceeded resource limit. Please try again later.

This is interesting. On my own small forum, there's ordinarily less than five people or bots online at any time. Starting several days ago, traffic suddenly increased to 30-35, staying in that range until this morning, then suddenly dropped back to normal. Also, looking at what the guests were doing showed that they were "responding to topics", which is impossible since guests can't post. Pretty fishy.

I have not logged in much recently, but at "The510Realm.com" I have gotten that message almost every time I log in. Never on this site.
