My fuel tank venting in the Midi Golf.
Vent hose on the fuel filler neck that goes back to the firewall to the left of picture, then bends to the right of picture, before doing a 180 degree bend up, then returning to the left of picture and finally bending down 90 degrees to end near the bottom of the tank (out of site). Simple, effective and no check valves needed. Note - the line constantly rises till the final turn down toward the ground to allow drain back.
I correct my earlier statement - this was standard Bug venting thru 1967. 1968 on VW installed a carbon canister into the vent system. Easy to Google the later system.

Here's my tank vent on the Slant 6 Super 7 build. Welded a nipple (hmmm...nipples) to the filler neck, ran some vinyl tubing as high as I can, then stuck a dirt bike/quad gas cap vent fitting on the end of the tubing to prevent pesky insects from plugging the tubing.
Just google "dirt bike gas cap breather"
