4-wheeler/powersports bits would be perfect for this. Appropriately sized, FWD bits or AWD, electric start, reverse gear, water cooling, plenty of power...

Re: A Berkeley with Bite! (ccrunner)
As I recall when GRM did theirs they put in too much engine.
They eventually abandoned the project.
I suspect that one of the newer (80's ?) Jap two-stroke triple engines might work well.
Been a long time, I think of RD400, KZ650?
I know the 900 triple would be too much again.

Re: A Berkeley with Bite! (ccrunner)
Another cool project! I was thinking legends car type chassis offset to pax side but no pax possible. The driveshaft length and rpm would make a under sized od tube undesireable due to whipping. I'm sure there is a fine line.
Miata bits again?

The problem with the the GRM Berkeley was lack of track width. The thing wanted to roll over.

Size Matters (May 2018)
Before tear down, I wanted to get a few more pics for scale (the quad is a 2006 Yamaha Raptor)..

Re: A Berkeley with Bite! (ccrunner)
A sad, wrecked Honda
I'm told the pilot was ok after this get off, but I'll bet he was in some pain.. He hit something hard with the front and actually folded one of the fork tubes over.. A good bit of damage to the front, but the rest of the bike seems fine (relatively speaking of course)..

Re: A Berkeley with Bite! (ccrunner)
Suspension bits..
I found these wheels online on a vintage wheel website, and chose them because they're a bit different, and I thought they would compliment the looks of the car without overwhelming it or looking too 'blingy' .. They're 13x6, and have an old-school unilug pattern... I'll be using hub rings (54.1x73.1) to keep them true..
For the last 6 months I had myself convinced that I would be using Datsun 240/260 strut suspension under this car.. What looked possible on paper soon proved to be impossible in real life.. there is no way the struts would fit up under the bodywork, even sectioning the struts and using shorter VW rabbit inserts was still too long.. Soooo, back to the tried and true Miata uprights.. One slight variation is I'll be making custom control arms as they'll need to be very short, and I'll be using a bellcrank design to keep the shock height low enough to stay under the tiny body..
Finally, I've selected a 96-05 Rav4 center chunk as it's tiny, it has a 2.93 ratio, and is available as a locker.. I had one shipped to me, but it had a bent axle flange (someone dropped it), and once I opened it up I found out it was not a locker-- sent it back, and I'm on the hunt for another one now..

MV8.. thank you for the links .. I'll reach out to them on my search.. I do have a question though- what search method did you use to find these leads? I've been using car-part.com, and your leads didn't show up there.. you're using something else to source used parts?
thanks-

I used car_parts.com. I found one under rear axle and one under diff assy. There are more than that out there. Most yards are not too efficient in listing everything they have. I'd call all the locals too who are not on the site to see if they have any rav4s in that year range and look for myself. Odds are the guys in the yard are not experts on everything they have or really know what all is back there.

Re: A Berkeley with Bite! (ccrunner)
I can picture how this might go. Will you try front steer to get the output flange lower for more pax room? Narrow the N600 suspension jig to work? Looks like the driveshaft will be further toward the pax side than the N600, under the pax seat. Might need cvs instead of ujoints if the angle is too great in the overhead view with a centered diff.
