Adam
Nice complete donor any details or price to give? (general rule of thumb stuff is ok, where you found, it how many miles what looks useable what might be resellable)

Chet3po sounds like he selling off bits he doesnt need to fund his build and pay down the donor cost.

That thing is in immaculate condition compared to mine. Be advised that those rear view mirrors will sell for up to $75 each depending on condition.

Congrats, that looks like a sweet donor. I'd love to know what you gave for it and where you found it.

I found the car in autotrader.ca. Turns out the guy runs a company called Millenium Imports and specialises in Mazdas, particularly RX-7s. He has tonnes of spares, (905 778 8392) and is based in Bradford, 30 minutes north of Toronto.

My car came from the States after a "little knock" on the front and back. I had a good look over it, ran the engine, checked the suspension and worked out what I could sell. Anyway $1500 CDN later it was delivered to my front door. I figure I can sell the doors, trunk lid and roof. The hood and body are pretty much toast and I need everything else.

Looks like you got a good deal - Miatas of any kind are hard to come by for reasonable cash. 8)

Hope you don't mind, but I stickied your build with the rest of the builds, so it's easier to find. Oh, and I assume your name is Adam so I tagged it as such.

Qucik update.

I just bought the welder. I got a 2nd Hand Miller 175 that seems to work perfectly. Now I have to sell the unwanted Miata parts and rewire the garage.

THe build table is built and the +4 chassis marked out.

Canadain Tire had a special on Jobmate Workbenches, $10 ea, so I bought 2 of them to act as stands for the table. The surface is 3/4" MDF, 2 pieces of 48" x 48". These are held together with some metal studding that I had left from the basement, and are clamped in the workbenches.

Hopefully it will take the weight.

Next step, order some metal.

Frame is built

Post by locost_adam »

Well, so much for regular updates - still you don't need to see pictures of uncut strips of metal. :D

I have now completed the first stage of the frame. This is my interpretation of the Miata based frame. I did spend a lot of time examining all the frames I could get photos of though. I will probably add some gussets as the car comes together.

The next stage is to build the suspension, so I can get the rear suspension on, followed by the diff, then the engine. Then I can do the tunnel.

Here are the photos so far - all the bracing and clamping kept the distortion to an absolute minimum (<1/16" end to end)

Looking good. We are at about the same place in our builds from the looks of it.

FWIW it seems that I remember somewhere a 7 using that rear cutting up thier newly finished tunnel to allow the instalation of that long torque arm.

**edit**
This is where I took our discussion of using the Miata's PPF:
