Locost 11 R1

Here is where the build logs go for non-traditional build logs. Mid-engine, three wheelers, you name it. If it's not your typical Locost it goes here.

You work fast.

An observation. (Haaa, don't you just hate it when you hear that!)
On the radiator mounts up top, that we can see. I would reverse the tabs where the radiator tabs were outboard and the chassis tabs inboard. This will give the radiator more freedom to expand, if you used some longer bolts also.
I am also a little uncomfortable with the full length of the upper aluminum water line, with so little amount of rubber hose. That's again a lot of metal expansion with what seem little amount of comfortable room to do so. Might worry about early fatigue there.

Think I would add a hose here, at the red arrow. No?

Love this car. Great work as always

Thanks Greg! I will work on the tabs. Going to go with the full lenght tube for now.

Been working to get things up and running ----------but!!!. Man did I have a hard time welding the Intakecover! :ack: Been a long since the last time welding .042 Alum. :BH: It went all over the place. Just getting old ? Here is what I ended up with? NOT MY BEST WORK!

Then after that , could not get it to run? :BH: All dressed up and wont run? On a more positive note, the cooling system is holding water. For now?
Where is always tomorrow !

Found the problem. Just too many red/white wires! Fixed that and look the starter relay works!the coils fire! Added some gas and started right up with a miss! :ack: 3 pipes turned blue and one did not?
Maybe the one not firing? Oh,and (N) switch just failed ! go figure. :ack: So changed the plugs and ran just fine untill it ran out of gas! :BH: And so did I! Vid maybe on Sunday?

Is all GOOD.

P.S. Think the muffler is fine but the intake seams 10 times louder than the exhaust ! Will try the 50 Ft. test with the Video. But the air box seams ok! Uggly but it works. Need to work on it!

Yes, the air box will be loud with ITBs. Once you get an air filter on it and insulate the whole box for repelling engine bay heat, it will get mellower.

Thanks for those vids.
"Flames"... make me laugh because it's so much a reminder that boys never grow old.

Nice hearing these bike motors in cars. Just has that sound we all strive for. As close to an F1 car as we will get.

Thanks all. May need to use the youtube thing more. Not much of a typer!

Oh,the motor mount bushings worked GREAT! My thanks to Jeff at underwood-racing. Jeff's build is what got this car started. I looked at one of his track day runs and that was it! I think it was the sound!

I looked at that one and chuckled too. TWWTFM said, "What are you giggling about?" so I showed her. Her response? "Men just never grow up, do they?" I re-quoted that James Garner line from some forgotten movie, "Men are just boys until the day you bury them." Ain't it da truth???

B85- Funny you should mention Jeff Underwood's build. That's one that inspired me as well. Our cars (mine and his, or mine and yours for that matter) are nothing alike, but seeing Jeff's build definitely got my giblets vibrating, made me want to build my own race car too. His is one righteous machine, too!!!

Peace, Love and "Flame On!"-

A little more work. Built the heatshield and coil mount. Made so it can come off and will put insulation on the exhause side. Alot of heat coming off the header! May also rap the pipes? This marks the first mounting plate for this build! Almost done?

B85, i have been using RivNuts to attach panels, etc It really makes a more professional finish.

I get them from McMaster

http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-rivet-nuts/=lyqx2o

size 10-32 is about 20 cents a piece

the installation tool is about $50 and comes with a few mandrels for 8-32 10-24 and 10-32, i also bought 1/4-20

http://www.mcmaster.com/#rivet-nut-inst ... ls/=lyqxxt

SC

PS i wasnt implying that your car is unprofessional ...its REALLY nice IMO

Not sure if the coils are mounted with aluminum spacers?? But you should use Rubber Shock Mounts https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/produ ... oduct=3048 I think, especially with a high rev motor with solid mounts.

Oooops, I see now that it looks like the coils have them already. ;)
